This question constitutes one of the topics of the seminar sessions which are organized by the training arm (Institute of Practical Ministry) of our non-denominational commission (Warning Trumpet Evangelical Mission – WATREM). For whose sake do we serve? For whose sake do you serve? That is, the work you are doing in the vineyard of God, in whose interest are into it? Who is the beneficiary, in the final analysis? Who reaps the dividends, when the chips are down?
Is it in the interest and benefit of God that man serves in God’s vineyard or in the interest and benefit of oneself? This is what we shall be trying to proffer answer to in this chapter. This is in the face of so many misconstructions which one hears even from among some leading members of the clergy
Our guiding scripture here is Job 22:2 & 3,
“Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?”
There are five vital questions every worker in the vineyard needs to ask himself or herself constantly. These are questions that are simply vital:
- Of what use is my serve in the church of God?
- Does God really need my service?
- Is my service for God or for myself?
- What has God got to gain from my vineyard activities in the final analysis?
- Does God have anything to really gain from man?
To enable us to proffer answers to these important questions, we need to analyze the various vineyard activities that there are, and to which you and I are called, according to our several ability.
